About This Site

In the Spring of 2003, it became clear that many of the documents and pictures that hold the stories of the communities around Hubbards were falling into decay and needed to be preserved in some way.  The idea was launched to use technology to not only preserve the documents but also to provide much greater access to them for the people who lived here or who wanted to know these stories.

Funding was granted through the Halifax Regional C@P Association and the Hubbards Area Heritage Collection project began. Material that had been stored in the J. D. Shatford Public Library and the Heritage Society office as well as in people’s homes was collected and digitized and loaded on the Web site so that people everywhere could see the pictures, read the articles and hear the stories that make up the rich history of this area.   We hope to see the site grow as more pictures and documents are scanned to add to the stories.

We are indebted to the members of the Hubbards Heritage Society who have provided much of the content for the site, for the many photographs from Ned Norwood’s collection and many others in the community who helped to make this project possible.

See the pictures, read the articles and hear the stories that make up the rich history of Communities around Hubbards, NS.
